Discourse Community
I am part of the Fantasy Football community. I only recently started playing it with my brother. Only people who know what fantasy football is would really understand what I am talking about. This discourse community is probably marked as a masculine type because football is considered a manly thing. I know women play it also but it is generally labeled as masculine.

I like your talk about gender in regards to this technology. I totally agree that it is "marked" male but know at least three women who are playing fantasy football (one person I teach with).
Language seems so important to building community here. And community really seems to be the key, right? We can all watch football together, but there is something special about coming together in this online place to discuss the sport.
Great community to discuss.
